Meeting Place: Carpark at the bottom of the hill on Albert Street (entrance to the Lake). Look for the Club Flag at the main entrance gate.
Route: This walk is shaded by mature trees so it’s perfect for summer and is mostly flat with a few gradual climbs. A concrete path winds around a peaceful lake and there are toilets and a children’s playground nearby too. This is a tranquil spot tucked away in the heart of Cambridge with a natural lake and very pretty exotic and native trees.
Lake Te Koo Utu is a 5.3-hectare lake whose name translates “ladle dripping into water’ and was special to Māori for eels and fresh water in pre-European days. A lovely relaxed walk to start the year.
Directions: For those of you who are able, the easiest way from Auckland is to put Albert St, Cambridge in the car/phone Nav system and it will get you there. However, directions from North are:
- Take SH1 to Cambridge. After passing Taupiri, the road forks left and right
- Stay in right hand lane and follow signs to Taupo.
- Follow this road for about 33 kms and take the ramp on the left signposted
Cambridge/ Hautapu SH1B:
- Turn right at the lights onto Victoria Rd
- Follow Victoria Rd for about 3 kms and take Thornton Rd on your left- follow till the T intersection.
- Turn right into Albert St
- The entrance to the Lake is at the bottom of the hill and the Club flag will be at the gate so look out for it.
Walk Time: Approximately 45 minutes.
On leash/Off leash: This is an on-leash area.
Cup of Tea anyone? Please stay and socialize after the walk - you will meet other beagle owners and it’s lovely for the beagles who love a good pack party! The club will be providing free morning tea for members. Non-members- koha gold coin donation.
