Meeting Place: Car parking meeting area is on Rotoroa Drive near the exit. See photo below. Look out for the Auckland Beagle Club flag. PLEASE NOTE- WE GO RAINHAIL OR SHINE!
Route: This Lake (also known as Lake Rotoroa) has wide open green spaces with boardwalk pathways and bike paths, toilets and a café. It is part of a domain comprising 101 hectares and the lake is 2m-6m deep and is close to the central city. It is a popular tourist destination and very scenic. It is mostly flat and push chair friendly. The walkway is 3.8 kms.
Directions: From Auckland take SH 1 South and go past the Taupiri exit (Roadworks from Gordonton Rd Interchange for a few kms) then take the SH 1C exit (signposted Hamilton City / New Plymouth) and stay on 1C (Mangaharakeke Dr) thru a set of lights– stay in left lane and take 2nd exit at roundabout (still on 1 C). At next roundabout take the first exit onto Norton Rd. Go approx. 1k and turn right into Empire St – 1stleft onto Lake Rd. Stay on Lake Rd which becomes Ruakiwi Rd for about 2.5 kms, then just before the end, take Rotoroa Dr on the right- Lake Entrance. Go right (one way)and follow the drive around the Lake for about 1 km and the Beagle Club flag will be near the exit.
Walk Time: Approximately 50- 60 minutes.
On leash/Off leash: This is an on-leash area for the most part but there is a designated off leash area.
