Date: Sunday, the 17th March 2024
Time: 10am
Meeting Place: Intersection of Carlton Gore Rd and George Street, Newmarket
Directions: Click here to view the location on Google Map
Parking: No specific car park
Meeting Place: The Club Flag will be up at the intersection of Carlton Gore Rd and George Street Newmarket. But parking is also available near the Cricket Grandstand on Grandstand/Boundary Road which is also off Carlton Gore Road to the left of George St. See photo below. But parking can sometimes be tricky so you’ll just have to be on the lookout for street parking or even the Museum carpark if you have to.
Route: The Auckland Domain is the city’s oldest park and one of the largest. It is the remnant of an ancient volcano called Pukekawa. It consists of 75 hectares established in 1843. We will be walking only part of the Domain but you can also visit the gorgeous Wintergardens and Museum while there (although no dogs allowed in those buildings sadly). This walk is an easy stroll with a few modest hilly bits and is on leash at all times. This is a place of great beauty in the middle of the city so do come along and enjoy the peaceful surrounds. The walk takes about an hour -mostly on well paved trails. There are plenty of toilets around.
Directions: About 10 mins from the CBD. There are many ways to get here so it may be best to use google maps or sat nav if you have never been.
Walk Time: Approximately 60 minutes.
On leash/Off leash: See above. Most of the walk is on lead but there is a dedicated off leash area at the intersection of Carlton Gore Rd and George St. Please contact Ray Linton Brown on 021618465 if you have any queries.
Cup of Tea anyone? Can I please encourage you all to stay and socialize after the walk? The club will be providing free morning tea and snacks for members. Non-members welcome to join, or a koha coin donation for morning tea.
Remember: It is advisable not to leave any valuables in vehicles, and to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for poor weather conditions and off road walking. Don’t forget to take water and poo bags for your dogs.
Rain, Hail or shine the Beagle Club walks go ahead!
