Home found – Leo

Leo has found a wonderful new home in the far north, with lots of company, lots of space to run around and plenty of cuddles and friends of all varieties, though he’s not yet sure about the donkeys.

If you are interested in re-homing Leo, please call Terry Humphries on 021 274 9145, or email at adaptablesigns@xtra.co.nz.

Leo is a lovely Beagle currently with a foster family in North Auckland. He was surrendered by his owner as she was unable to stop him from constantly escaping from the property, so he needs new owners who are used to Beagles and who are fully prepared for Beagle escape artistry and have a Beagle-proofed property.

Leo is around 4 years old and was with his previous owner for a year.

He is a sweet and gentle natured Beagle who loves lots of cuddles and is very people focused.

Leo is slightly overweight and the pound have put him onto a diet to help with that. This will be continuing in his foster home where he is staying with two other Beagles who are also on diets. It’s a Beagle thing.

The pound have received some interest from the general public but they didn’t want Leo to fall into the same situation he has just come from. He needs someone who knows and understands the breed who is willing to take him on as part of their family.

Home Found- Lil

Lil has found a home who will love her and help her over her loss.  She’s heading off to live with three other very friendly beagles of a similar age group and two lovely humans who will take great care of her during her dotage.

If you are interested in re-homing Lil, please call Terry Humphries on 021 274 9145, or email at adaptablesigns@xtra.co.nz

Lil is a bitch that has been spayed. She was purchased a few years ago on TradeMe from a breeder in Thames. Her owner Sid passed away last week at the age of 92. He had been single with no immediate family, and dogs have been his companions all his life. Until 3 months ago Sid had been at home with Lil, and she moved with Sid to a rest home in West Auckland until last week. Lil is nearly 12 years old. She has been seen by the vet (Massey Heights Veterinary Hospital256 Don Buck Road, Massey 832 4895) a couple of times in recent months for checkups. I believe all vaccinations are up to date.

Lil is a classic couch potato. I suspect she isn’t to very lively due to arthritis. She doesn’t move with great ease but is mobile nonetheless. She does occasionally urinate inside. I suspect she wasn’t getting enough time outside due to the owner’s illness. The vet prescribed Incurin tablets last month for incontinence. I believe this has helped. She was also tested for suspected Cushings Disease without any conclusive results. She is a little overweight probably due the owner constantly overfeeding her. Her weight has come down over recent weeks as the owner’s health declined and others took on the responsibility of caring for her in the rest home.

Lil is currently being looked after in kennels in West Auckland.  She has a very calm, placid temperament, very good around people and other animals. She cohabitated with a cat at the rest home and visiting dogs created no problems.

The executors of Sid’s estate are seeking a home for Lil. Any help in finding her a suitable home to live out the rest of her days would be greatly appreciated.  We hope to be able to place her with someone within the next week if at all possible.

If you can give this beautiful girl a loving home please get in touch with Terry Humphries on 021 274 9145, or email at adaptablesigns@xtra.co.nz

Home Found – Leo & Spud

Leo & Spud have finally found a new home. Yay.  It took some time as their current owner only wanted them to go to the very best home.  Thank you everyone who showed an interest in this lovely pair.

If you are interested please contact Lisa Rawlins lisa@belowero.co.nz (for North Island enquires) or Belinda Wilson bee.wilson22gmail.com (for South Island enquries). Don’t forget to include details about yourself and be sure to check our page on breed information and also our page on adopting a beagle.

Gorgeous Leo (almost 6) and Spud (8) are looking for a new home, their daughter Abby has been successfully re-homed, so just Mum & Dad needing a great new place to settle. Ideally we would like to find them a home together as they have always been together. They could go separately but would need canine company or someone who is around for a lot of the day. Their owner is reluctantly re-homing them due to very genuine reasons. Below is what he says about them (don’t they sound just lovely?)

  • All sit and wait for food
  • All good off leash in dog parks
  • Good with other animals (we have always had cats)
  • Good with children but have always been watchful as any owner would
  • Never had problem with biting but will give little growl when had enough
  • Mostly come when called
  • Always been inside dogs with dog door
  • All love cuddles. Spud and Abby like to hop on chair and cuddle at night with people
  • All like walks but also like to lay in sun, not hyperactive
  • All like company of people
  • Leo likes to be under a blanket at night
  • Spud loves belly rubs

Home Found – Kale

Thank you everyone for your interest in Kale.  He has now been successfully re-homed.

If you are interested in re-homing Kale, please call Terry Humphries on 021 274 9145, or email at adaptablesigns@xtra.co.nz.

Kale is a tan & white neutered male who is approximately 3 years old. He is registered and microchipped.

He is being re-homed because his current owner has a small daughter (3) and finds she has less and less time to give him the exercise he needs. She is also in a rental property with inadequate fencing and he often escapes. If he gets bored he digs holes.

Unfortunately in his first year he was mostly kept in a large cage by his first owner with infrequent exercise and attention. His current owner adopted him when he was around 1, and she has now had him for about 2 years.

Kale has done 6 months obedience training and has certificates. He just loved running and performing the exercises on the course laid out at dog obedience and would probably love to more of this.

He can shake hands, dance and do tricks.

He is socialised with other cats and dogs and is good with children.

His last vet appointment was in the last 6 months – vaccinations, flea treatment and worming all up to date.

Kale needs lots of attention and heaps of exercise and workouts.

Kale has a lovely, friendly nature and his ideal home would be one with fencing and supervision with an owner who preferably has beagle experience and time to spend with him.

Home Found – Ben

Ben has been successfully re-homed. Thank you everyone who registered their interest in helping.  If you are still looking for a beagle to love, please keep in touch with Terry.  The following beagles are still looking for new forever homes.  Older beagles are just as wonderful, if not more so, than young dogs and puppies.  They come pre-trained and have grown out of those extremely naughty early years.

Home Wanted – Kale

If you are interested in re-homing Ben, please call Terry Humphries on 021 274 9145, or email at adaptablesigns@xtra.co.nz.

Ben was 6 last November (2013).  He is still entire but current owner is happy to get neutering performed if required.

He loves his walks and is very obedient on the lead.

If he does get out the gate because someone has let him out he comes back after piddling everywhere within a reasonable proximity.

Great with other dogs; could be a cat or rabbit killer – but this is unknown.

Absolutely great with any age group from baby through to more elderly.

Steals food left within his reach which is higher and wider than one would expect looking at his size.

Has never had any health issues except he is currently on a diet to lose the extra 8 kgs my daughter allowed him to put on.  He has lost about half of that.

Sleeps in a garage at night and is used to being on his own during the day for a few hours.

Absolutely loves going out in the car.

Registration will be transferred through the Kennel Club if the new owner wishes it and all his bits and pieces can be sent anywhere with him with freight costs covered by the current owner.

Home Found – Theo

Theo has been successfully re-homed. Thank you everyone who registered their interest in helping.  If you are still looking for a beagle to love, please keep in touch with Terry.

If you are interested in re-homing Theo, please call Terry Humphries on 021 274 9145, or email at adaptablesigns@xtra.co.nz.

Theo is a 3 year old tricolour beagle. Theo came to live with us from the breeder in Waihi when he was 4 months old. While at the breeders he was there with his Dad.

We have recently had a new baby and we are finding that we do not have enough time to dedicate to Theo.

Theo has a lovely, friendly and gentle nature. He has been great around our young baby (5 months) and loves playing with older kids.

Theo’s ideal new home would be with a new owner who is home during the day. He would also love canine company. He needs a fully fenced/secure section to run around in. His new owner needs to be a strong leader.

Theo becomes upset when he is left at home alone for any period of time. He attempts to escape from his back yard and will whine/cry for the first period of time. When left alone he can become destructive.

He needs to be exercised regularly, he loves going for walks. Theo has been socialised with other dogs, and has been attending a doggie-day care on a weekly basis.

Theo sleeps inside the house, and has access to outside through a dog door. During the day Theo is quite happy to sleep in the sun or on his bed.

Theo was neutered when he was a young puppy and has been micro chipped.

Theo’s last vet visit was in February when he had his yearly check up. His vaccines, worming and flea treatment are all up to date.
