Find your way to Paeroa township. At the southern end of the town the State highway 2 enters the Gorge Road. Approximately 3 minutes into the Gorge Road there is the Karangahake Reserve on your right – turn into the Reserve where there is a large Car Park area. See Google map at bottom of page.
You should allow at least one hour from the Bombay Hills to Paeroa township.
Bring a torch (for the tunnels), comfortable walking shoes for off road, food, water, and poo bags (for your dog).
This is a very exciting walk in the Karangahake Gorge on the south side of Paeroa. It will involve either a 1½ or 2½ hour walk along side the Karangahake Gorge, Ohinemuri River or the Waitawheta River that runs into the Gorge river. Members will be able choose their preferred walk on the day from the two selections that will be explained to them.
There are two walks on offer, both walks follow rivers through the Gorge. The walk that follows State highway 2 is a flat level walk. The other walk has gradual to steep slopes in short sections. We will be entering old goldmine tunnels and suspension bridges on both walks, and therefore you will require a torch.
We will be passing through beautiful native bush and large swimming pools, please make sure you are carrying water and snack food for yourself. You do not need to carry water for our Beagles.
Check out more information about Karangahake Gorge here.

Beagle walks go ahead on the day, rain or shine!
