Beagle Walk – Sunday 2nd July 2017 – Silo Park

Location: Silo Park, Auckland CBD
Date: Sunday 2nd July 2017
Time: 9.45am for a 10am start
Meeting Place: Silo Park at the tall concrete silos, near the gantry crossing Beaumont Street.
Directions: From the northern motorway, cross the Harbour Bridge and take the Fanshaw Street exit, At first lights turn left into Beaumont Street and you’ll see the gantry in the distance.

From the Southern and Northwestern motorways, take the Nelson Street off ramp, take 2nd left into Wellesley Street. At bottom of hill turn left at lights into Victoria Street. Take 1st right at lights into Beaumont Street, cross Fanshaw Street and continue on Beaumont Street and you’ll see the gantry in the distance.

Parking: On Sundays metered parking is free in Beaumont Street, Hamer Street and other streets. The off street car park is not free on Sundays.

Walk Details:
From Silo Park we walk through Wynyard Quarter, crossing the Viaduct Basin on the footbridge and head towards the downtown ferry terminal. We head out onto Queens Wharf, home of ‘The Cloud’, “The Lighthouse” and “Shed 10 Passenger Terminal” and then double back to the Viaduct Basin and walk the marina returning to Wynyard Quarter via the new ASB Waterfront Theatre.

Rushworth serve a good coffee for those wanting refreshments afterwards. The Auckland Fish Market also has a cafe but is closed at time of writing for renovation.

This is an on lead walk and is completely flat with no steps so is suitable for everyone. There are several toilets on the walk and water taps.


Non members are welcome to attend up to three of our beagle walks, after that, we would love for you to become a member. Membership costs from $15 per year and includes benefits such as a catered fun day in December, snacks and drinks after some of the walks, and a regular newsletter.

There is a play area for children. Toilet facilities available at a member’s house. Snacks and drinks will be provided after the walk.

Walking path is mainly concrete, There is bit of metal  track for part of the walk.

Off leash area, Fairly open , Push chair friendly, there’s a  water fall look out from 2 position.

Walk details:

This is a fairly easy walk along the Kell Park Heritage Trail that starts with a concrete track and turns into a formed bush track. There are some stairs.

Parking is on Kell Street and there is 120 min parking behind the Library, Council building.

This is an on-leash walk.

This is a well shaded park with wheelchair access, level ground, and well pathed all around the lake.

Parking is approximately half km from the main entrance.  The Beagle Club flag will be put up in the parking area.

Hamilton Lake is approximately 75 minutes drive from the end of the southern motorway.

2016 Beagle Club Walk & Christmas Fun Day

AUCKLAND BEAGLE CLUB

WALK & FUN DAY – CORNWALL PARK & ONE TREE HILL

Saturday, 3rd December 2016 

We look forward to seeing you, your children, and your beagles.  It’s a great day for members to get together for a walk, games, food and have a nice time out with our Beagles.

Directions:   Access from the Greenlane Southern motorway interchange. Enter the park from the main gates on Greenlane Road (West).  Follow Pohutukawa Drive to the car park on the left at the roundabout.

Start time:  9.45 a.m.  We will walk up to the summit of One Tree Hill to enjoy the wonderful views of Auckland then continue down the other side of the mountain.  During the walk all dogs must remain on leads.

Fun & Games:  11.30 a.m. approximately.  We have a number of games organised with prizes to be won, including the ever popular ‘Hunt the Biscuit’, a 7 legged race, potato & spoon race, sack race, and an agility course.

Fun Judging:  12.45 p.m.  Your Beagles will be judged for their good looks and abilities.  Neither you nor your Beagle need any experience other than the ability to ‘show off’.  Special thanks to our guest judge for this event – Cori Grootjans.  Prizes for the best in each class.

Raffle: Just before lunch we will draw the raffle. See information on prizes and purchasing tickets further down this page.

Lunch:  1.30 p.m. approximately.  We will enjoy a barbecue lunch – all the meat,  bread, salads and other goodies, including drinks, will be provided by the Club.

Ticket prices:  $2 each or 3 for $5
Ensure you have purchased your tickets before 12.30pm as the raffles will be drawn before lunch.

You can purchase tickets on the day, or you can purchase tickets online. For online purchases we’ll allocate the next available tickets to your name and email you the numbers.

Rain Date:  If it is extremely wet on the day we have the Sunday, 4th December 2016 as a rain date.

Great Animal Walk & Blessing of the Animals – Sunday 2nd Oct 2016

A few members of the Beagle Club are attending the Great Animal Walk and suggested that it would be fun for beagles and their humans to meet up and walk together.

This is an on-leash walk around Hobsonville Point. There is a farmers’ market that is well worth checking out either before or after the walk. Last time we did this walk there was an opportunity for water loving beagles to jump into the harbour, so if you have a water hound, you may want to bring towels.

Directions:
* From the Northern Motorway :
Note: The Shelley Beach Road / Curran Street entrance is currently closed. You can still exit Westhaven via Shelley Beach Road.
Come over the Harbour Bridge and take the Fanshawe Street exit.
At the first traffic lights, turn left into Beaumont Street.
On Beaumont Street, take 1st left into Westhaven Drive.
Carry on along Westhaven Drive and the Carpark for Piers J – K is on the right almost as far along as the Harbour Bridge.
* From the Southern and North Western Motorways :
From both motorways take the Nelson Street offramp onto Nelson Street and take 2nd left into Wellesley Street.
At the bottom of the hill turn left into Victoria Street.
Take 1st right turn into Beaumont Street.
Go straight along Beaumont Street, cross Fanshawe Street and then take 1st left into Westhaven Drive.
The Carpark for Piers J – K is on the right almost as far along as the Harbour Bridge.

Walk details:

We will head along the Esplanade and cross Curran Street up to Point Erin Park.

Crossing the park we come down to the St Mary’s Bay Walkway and walk along as far as the Jacob’s Ladder Footbridge to cross the motorway. We then join the recently opened Westhaven Promenade which takes us back to the carpark.

The walk takes around 1 hour and is very easy with good paths. There is only 1 set of steps (30 steps) that we will have to come down.

This is an on lead walk with toilets and a dog watering bowl near the carpark.

The old “Sitting Duck Cafe” is due to reopen as “Buoy Cafe” on 7th July where we can relax after the walk.

Directions: Head north towards Albany and into Albany Village.
Just past the village there is a left turn onto The Avenue.
Follow this road to Paremoremo.
Just before the prison, turn left into Merewhira Road.
At the end of the road, turn left into Sanders Road.

Walk details:

This has fairly wide formed footpaths that are made of gravel and dirt. It is a suitable walk for all fitness levels and the off leash area is wheelchair accessible via Sanders Road.

There is a great children’s play area near the picnic tables that our younger members can enjoy.

There are no bins so be prepared to carry poop bags home with you.

The dog park is off leash, but the mountain bike tracks are on-leash.

There are toilets available if needed.
