Meeting Place: “Park and Ride” carpark next to Kings plant barn
Route: travel along Tamaki drive from the CBD until you come to Ngapipi Road on your right just pass the Orakei Motor Boat Club, travel along approximately 300 mtrs to Orakei Road on your right, approximately 50mtrs from this intersection is the entrance to the car park of the Kings Plant Barn, turn right into this, there is a “Park & Ride ” Railway carpark, we will meet here.
The walk is a circular walk around the basin, there is a pathway from Orakei Railway Station and under Orakei Road that leads directly onto the boardwalk that crosses Orakei Basin beside the railway line. The Basin is a Tidal lagoon in a Volcanic crater, this walk takes you through small patches of bush and up high onto the ridge for a view of the city Skyline.
The walk is a mix of levels and steep paths, steep steps, suitable for most ages and levels of fitness and mobility, designed with flat shoes or running shoes in mind. This is a dog friendly walk with off leash area.
