IMPORTANT NOTICE: Kennel cough is currently doing the rounds in Auckland. If your dog is showing any symptoms, please keep them isolated until better. Symptoms include a retching and heaving cough, salivation and watery discharge. Dogs may still eat as normal and have normal energy levels but they will have a persistent cough. Dogs need to be kept isolated for at least a week after coughing has ended to avoid passing the cough onto other dogs.
Location: KareKare Beach West Coast

Route: Head along the north-western motorway. Get off at Lincoln Road. At the end of Lincoln Road turn into Great North Road. At first set of lights turn right into Henderson Valley Road. At the roundabout take Forest Hill Road and drive to the end. Turn right into West Coast Road. At the end of West Coast Road turn right into Scenic Drive. Travel approximately 200m and take Piha Road at the junction. Karekare ( on Left) are signposted off Piha Road.
Walk details: This walk will start at our meeting place in the Car Park, a short walk back along the road will bring us to the local baches & resident houses where a small walkway leads up & over a small hill down onto the Beach at the Northern end, from here we will continue to the far north end, then back along the entire beach to the south end. The tide is going to be at its lowest point, which means we will be able to walk towards Whatipu, we can walk about 3 kilometers to the Pararaha Gorge, where we will be able to see the old remains of a steam train boiler & tracks from the days of Kauri logging in this area. On our return to KareKare Beach, there is a winding grassed & sandy track that leads back to the Car Park. At this point I will try to encourage you (for those that still may have some energy left) to walk a very short (25mtrs) walk up the road to the locals popular Water Fall were the dogs can swim & drink the purest water in Auckland. (an extra 5 minute walk)
Walk time approximately to 2hrs 20mins
Can I please encourage you all to bring along something to eat & drink at the end of the walk in the Car Park for those who might have time to socialize after the walk. (You will need the rest!!)
