Beagle Walk – Sun 9th August 2020 – Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga, Auckland

Location: Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga, Auckland
Date: Sunday the 9th August 2020
Time: 9.45am for a 10am start
Meeting Place: Car park on Lady Marie Drive, off Cascades road

Parking: There are 3 car parks for this park

Meeting Place: There are 3 car parks for this park, which are all close together. We will meet at the car park on Lady Marie Drive, off Cascades road. Look out for the Auckland Beagle Club flag.

Route: This is an easy concrete path with a few modest hilly bits and is mostly suitable for pushchairs etc. You will go past pohutakawa trees and sports fields (there are toilets on the way) and across the road is the Howick Historical village. There is a playground and skate park for children as well as a water feature so it’s a great place for kids. Cyclists use the path as well so be alert to this.

Directions: From Pakuranga Road turn right into Cascades Road. Then left into Lady Marie Drive.

Walk Time: Approximately 60 minutes.

On leash/Off leash: This is an on leash area.

Beagle Walk – Sun 5th July 2020 – Sanders Reserve, Paremoremo, North Shore

Location: Sanders Reserve, Paremoremo, North Shore
Date: Sunday the 5th July 2020
Time: 9.45am for a 10am start
Meeting Place: Main car park at the end of Sanders Road

Meeting Place: Main car park at the end of Sanders Road, near the playground as shown in the photo below. Look out for the Auckland Beagle Club flag. There are toilets here.

Route: Sanders Reserve has one of the few fenced dog parks in Auckland. The paths are mainly gravel and flat but there are a few moderate slopes. The reserve allows for mixed-use activities such as mountain biking and horse riding so everyone needs to be respectful of other park users. There is a fully fenced designated dog area which is off leash, but the rest of the trail is on leash. The walk has stunning views of the harbor and has a carved tree and seat known as the Seat of Life. There is also a small beach access point.

Directions: From the Northern motorway take the Albany expressway exit and continue onto Dairy Flat Hiway. Go through Albany village and turn left into The Avenue, which continues on as Paremeoremo Rd. Turn left into Merewhira Rd and left into Sanders Rd.

Walk Time: Approximately 60-90 minutes.

On leash/Off leash: This is an on leash area outside of the designated dog park.

Beagle Walk – Sun 15th March 2020 – Craigavon Park, Blockhouse Bay

Location: Craigavon Park, Blockhouse Bay
Date: Sunday the 15th March 2020

Route: The walk is a combination of gravel and concrete path and mostly flat and shaded by trees. It is located within Sister Rene Shadbolt Park. There is a child’s play area and toilets are available on the walk. There is an off leash dog park with a range of structures and obstacles for dogs to play in.

Directions: From the Northwestern motorway take the exit for Gt North rd. Turn left onto Blockhouse bay Rd. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Kinross St. Continue on Connell St to Connaught St.


Walk Time:
Approximately 60 minutes.

On leash/Off leash: This is an off leash area in parts.

Beagle Walk – Sun 16th February 2020 – Taitua Arboretum, Hamilton

Location: Taitua Arboretum, Hamilton
Date: Sunday the 16th February 2020
Time: 9.45am for a 10am start
Meeting Place: The Main Car Park

Parking: The Main Car Park

Meeting Place: The main Car Park as you drive through the gate on Taitua Rd. Look out for the Auckland Beagle Club flag. Please take care as there are chickens running free all around and dogs must be on lead at all times.

Route: The walk is mostly flat with a few slight hills. It’s an easy walk with lots of shade and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are toilets and drinking water beside the car park. The area is full of lovely mature trees and lakes with birdlife.

Directions: From Auckland it’s about 20 mins from Ngaruawahia and once there, turn toward Hamilton and Whatawhata. Howden Rd will be on the right and then take Taitua Rd on the left.


Walk Time:
Approximately 60 minutes.

On leash/Off leash: This is an on leash area at all times due to wildlife.

AGM 2019

Date: Saturday 9 November 2019
Time: 2pm
Location: Manuka Room, Jet Park Hotel, 63 Westney Road, Mangere
(The room is on the ground floor of the hotel)

The meeting will take place in the Manuka Room which is on the ground floor of the hotel. There will be someone from the Club outside the room to direct you so you shouldn’t need to go to reception. There is car parking on site.

We are very lucky that Jet Park Hotel kindly welcomes our beagles to attend the meeting. However, obviously this is a working Hotel so we need to be respectful, but please feel free to bring your beloved four legged companions along. They cannot vote but they are the reason the Club exists so it will be wonderful to have them.

Afternoon tea (for humans) will be provided after the meeting. Please do come along and get involved in your Club. We always welcome input from members and would love to see some new faces on the committee.

AGM Agenda, Presidents, and Treasurers reports have been sent to all members of the club. However, if you haven’t received them, please contact the Secretary.

Also, for those of you who have not done so yet, membership fees for the coming year are now due. Any queries, please contact the Secretary.

Christmas Fun Day and Walk

Venue: Waiatarua Reserve, Abbotts Way, Remuera
Time: 10:00am
Date: Saturday the 7th December 2019
Meeting place: Entrance is from Abbotts Way. Look for the Beagle flag flying high.

Toilets are in the car park by Grand Drive entrance.

Walk starts at 10.00 and will just follow the path around which will take approx. one hour. There is a lot of opportunity for off leash if you wish.

After the walk there will be cold meat and salads for lunch, along with some fun and games plus the raffle.

Raffle Prizes:
1st Jet Park Hotel Accommodation Voucher
(Your dog is also welcome. You may remember the recent article in the last Beagle Bugle).
2nd Christmas Cake, wine and goodies basket.
3rd Doggie hamper. Ray is selling raffles at the walk, and they can also be purchased on the day.

Please note: The lunch is free for Club members otherwise it is $5.00 per person.

Route: The walk is mostly paved but there are steep sections and stairs so it does require a good level of fitness. There are toilets available and the walk has interesting historical aspects and beautiful harbor views. Also of course -roses!

Directions: From the city, take Quay Street, and then turn right at the lights at the Strand. Turn left into Gladstone Road and then left onto Judges Bay Road.

Walk Time: Approximately 60 minutes.

On leash/Off leash: This is an on leash area.

Meeting Place: Car park at the end of Anzac Road, on Manly Esplanade. Look out for the Auckland Beagle Club flag, near the brown toilet block (photo below).

Route: The walk is mostly flat but there are a couple of moderate hills. Concrete footpaths throughout and it’s on lead at all times. There is a very large child’s play area on the beach and toilets are available on the walk. We will pass through Freyburg Park and sports fields before heading back to the beach.

Directions: From the Northern motorway take the Greville Road exit. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Arran Road, which becomes Nigel Rd. Turn right into Glencoe Rd and at the end continue onto Anzac Rd.

Walk Time: Approximately 60 minutes.

On leash/Off leash: This is an on leash area.

Location: Hamilton Gardens, Hamilton

Meeting Place: Car Park off Cobham Drive (SH1). Go through Gate 2, drive down the hill and the car park is at the bottom. Look out for the Auckland Beagle Club flag.

Route: The walk is slightly hilly at times with good footpaths some steps & generally pushchair friendly. There are toilets and a children’s play area at the gardens. The walk meanders along the riverside & back down the other side, crossing over two traffic bridges. There is also the option after the walk to have a look through the enclosed gardens (No dogs allowed). The gardens are a huge tourist attraction and well worth a look.

Directions: See the directions below (Gordonton Rd to Hamilton Gardens).

Walk Time: Approximately 90 minutes.

On leash/Off leash: This is an on leash walk but there is an off leash area nearby.
