Beagle Walk – Waiheke Island – 17 November 2013

Location: Waiheke Island

Time: Auckland CBD Departure: Meet at 8.45am (ferry departs 9am)
Devonport Departure: Meet at 8.55am (ferry departs 9.10am)
Meeting Place:

Fuller’s Downtown Ferry Building Auckland CBD, (this ferry will call at King Edward Parade, Devonport on the way and will pick up those who live on the Shore). 

For those who will be travelling from the Auckland side it is suggested that we meet in the Gladstone Road Car Park (see map & photo below) this Car Park is free, however you will need to allow 35mins to walk from this Car Park to the Ferry building. (therefore meet in this Car Park at 8am).

This walk is going to cost you approximately $36 for a return trip per person, children $16.

Route: Arrive at Matiatia Bay at approximately 9.45am we will be walking the ARC track No 2 Matiatia, Owhanake Bay which is around the North Coast of Waiheke.

Walk details: This walk follows a well-established tourist track with spectacular coastal views, you will need to have a reasonable level of fitness as there are some steep sections, we will be stopping off at several locations during this walk to take in the views and catch our breaths. The walk will end in Oneroa township where we will rest before heading back to the ferry building, to take the 1pm Ferry.

Walk Time: Approximately 2 to 2½ Hours

Note: It is advisable not to leave any valuables in vehicles, and to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for poor weather conditions and off road walking. Remember to bring water and poo bags for your dogs.

Beagle Walk – Botanical Gardens Walk – 12 October

Location: Auckland Botanical Gardens, Manurewa
Date: Saturday 12th October 2013
Time: 10am (new start time)
Meeting Place: Botanical Garden’s Car Park

Route: Travelling south from Auckland on State Highway 1 take the Manurewa Hill Road turn off, turn left and take the entrance on your left into the Botanical Gardens. Follow the signs indicating the Car Park on your left. See map at bottom of post for more information.Travelling north to Auckland take the Takanini turn off, turn left at off ramp lights, travel along Great South Road to Manurewa, at Alfriston Road (Z petrol station will be on your right hand side) turn right at lights. Take first left, then turn right into Hill Road, go straight and follow the signs to the Botanical Gardens.

Walk details: We will congregate in the far west end of this Car park and will travel down the left hand side of the Gardens (motorway side) to the large off leash area near the Puhinui Stream. We will walk through a small section of the Puhinui Stream forest Trail that leads into the bottom boundary of the Gardens. From here the walk will wind itself through multiple tracks of your choice up the right-hand side of the Gardens back to the Car Park.

Walk Time: Approximately 1½ to 2 HoursThere is a large Café within the Garden centre for those who wish to relax, eat & talk.

Reminder – Beagles Walk 31 August – Orakei Basin

Orakei Basin

Date:                  Saturday August 31st 2013
Time:                10am
Location:         Orakei Basin reserve Car Park

Route: Travel along Tamaki drive from the CBD until you come to Ngapipi Road on your right just pass the Orakei Motor Boat Club, travel along approximately 300 metres to Orakei Road on your right.  Approximately 50 metres from this intersection is the entrance to the car park area of the Orakei Basin reserve Park.  Follow the narrow road down to the car park.

Walk details: The walk is a circular walk around the basin.  There is a pathway from Orakei Railway Station and under Orakei Road that leads directly on to the boardwalk that crosses Orakei Basin beside the railway line. The Basin is a Tidal lagoon in a volcanic crater; this walk takes you through small patches of bush and up high on to the ridge for a view of the city Skyline. The walk is a mix of levels and steep paths, steep steps, suitable for most ages and levels of fitness and mobility, designed with flat shoes or running shoes in mind. This is a dog friendly walk with off leash areas.

Walk Time is approximately 45 minutes.

At the end of this walk we would encourage you to stop with us to have a Car Boot Coffee or tea break in the car park.

Reminder – Sausage Sizzle 14th & 15th Sept

We really need some volunteers to help with the sausage sizzle, if you can lend a hand, even if it is only for an  hour, please get in touch with Ray or Sandra.

We have been invited to hold a BBQ sausage sizzle at the “Grand Opening” of Ponsonby Animates Pet Store.

This is expected to be a huge event and going by past grand openings – very busy.
